Dr Malcolm McKellar. B.Optom, MBChB, FRANZCO

Eye surgeon and specialist.

The rainbow colours of your home town spread out below after an early morning mountain bike ride. Freckles on your grand-daughters nose. Shafts of light streaming through a stained glass window. Sight is one of our most treasured possessions.

Dr Malcolm McKellar understands how precious sight is. He is the only person in New Zealand trained as both an optometrist and ophthalmologist and has a reputation as a skilled surgeon who takes time to understand patient's needs, communicates well and uses cutting edge technologies.

Dr McKellar practices as a subspecialised ophthalmologist. He cares for patients with diseases affecting the external surface and front part of the eye. This includes conditions such as cataract, refractive error, corneal disease, pterygium, allergic and viral conjunctivitis, tumours of the conjunctiva and iris, blepharitis and dry eye.

Dr McKellar performs LASIK, cataract and corneal transplant surgery, implants toric, multifocal and phakic IOLs and removes pterygia and eye tumours.

Most patients seen by Dr McKellar are referred by optometrists, general practitioners and other eye specialists. He has clinics in Fendalton, Ferrymead, Rangiora and Hokitika.
