Cataract and cataract surgery

The red reflex of an eye with cortical cataract.

Is your vision blurry?

Do you have trouble seeing road signs or reading?

Are colours faded or are you more sensitive to light?

Do you have double vision in one eye or is it easier to see if one eye is closed?

The commonest cause of these symptoms is cataract, a condition in which the natural lens of the eye loses transparency.

Dr McKellar is a specialist cataract surgeon. He uses Ozil®, the most advanced method of cataract surgery and implants monofocal, toric and multifocal lenses to restore distance and near vision. Surgery is usually performed as a day stay, no stitch operation using topical or local anaesthesia.

Dr McKellar customises surgery for every patient. He takes time to find out what people do and how they use their eyes. Some patients want their eye to be focused for distance, others for near. Some want total freedom from spectacles, others love glasses and just want to see clearer.

Dr McKellar has a reputation for his ability to manage complex cataract situations, achieving excellent results in patients who have had previous refractive surgery and trauma or who have other eye diseases such as keratoconus and Fuchs corneal dystrophy.
