Blepharitis is a condition in which the eyelid margins become inflamed. Crusting of the eyelashes is common.
Bicarbonate lid cleaning
Bicarbonate solution is an effective treatment for the crusting associated with blepharitis.
Mix a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in a glass of boiled, cooled water. Keep the solution in a refrigerator and discard after one week.
You can use bicarbonate as an eyebath rinse or to clean the eyelids.
Clean the eyelid margins with a gauze square, designed to remove eye makeup, dipped in the bicarbonate solution.
Brush the eyelid gently along the roots of the eyelashes. It is important not to scrub the eyelids as this will further inflame the area.
