Refractive surgery

A Verisyse phakic intraocular lens

Are you short or long sighted?

Do you have astigmatism?

Are you sick of wearing glasses or contact lenses?

Do you need to have better vision to work in the police or armed forces?

Dr McKellar is a specialist refractive surgeon who uses a variety of surgical techniques to correct refractive error.

Patients with mild or moderate refractive errors are usually treated with the Excimer laser (LASIK or PRK). When treatment with laser is not possible or safe Dr McKellar implants phakic intraocular lenses or performs a refractive lens exchange. He was the first person in New Zealand to implant both Verysise® and Cachet® phakic IOLs.

Refractive surgery is usually performed as a day stay procedure using topical or local anaesthesia.
